Electrical Testing Explained:
A periodic electrical testing & inspection is an inspection and associated testing to check whether an electrical installation is in a satisfactory condition for continued service. This has more recently become known as, electrical installation condition report, or an EICR certificate. These can also be used for landlords who need to show that the electrical installation in their properties is in a sound condition.
On completion of the necessary inspection & testing, an Electrical Installation Condition Report will be issued detailing any observed damage, deterioration, defects, dangerous conditions and any non-compliance’s with the present-day safety standard which might give rise to danger. These will have observation codes: C1, C2, C3 and FI Each code has a particular meaning:
Code C1
‘Danger present’. Risk of injury.
Immediate remedial action required.
Code C2
‘Potentially dangerous’.
Urgent remedial action required
Code C3
‘Improvement recommended’
Code FI
‘Further investigation required without delay’
It is a critical job, which should only be carried out by a competent accredited electrician. They should be covered by a registered body.
